Almost three years ago, I went to Kaua'i with two of my best girlfriends and it was MAGIC. Because they worked for a hotel chain, we were able to stay in a hotel that was fancy beyond our wildest dreams (I could have/possibly did sleep on the bathroom carpet because it was more comfortable than my own bed at home/also I might have been a little tipsy, but I like to think I would have made that choice 100% sober because it was just soooo plush).
We hiked portions of the Kalalau trail, soaked up the sun in a spot where the river meets the sea, played in the pool, ate allll the food and drank alll the wine. One evening, sitting by Hanalei Bay, discussing our good fortune, playing cards and watching the sunset, we got on the subject of what we looked for in a partner. I tried to formulate what it was I wanted and my friend Vicky helped me find the words I was looking for. "You want someone who will seek out and do what you love, with you." As she was saying those words, I realized I wasn't necessarily looking for that in someone else, but in myself.
Was I taking advantage of every opportunity that came my way? Was I allowing my anxiety to get the best of me? Worrying too much about what others thought of my seemingly peculiar life? I almost hadn't gone on that trip because my anxiety had reached heights that I didn't know was possible. Seek, Do, Love became my new life motto. I stopped waiting for a opportunities to come my way, and started Seeking them out and taking full advantage of them. I try to Do something that I love every.single.day. That love of life radiates from you and is passed on to the next person, and the next person, and the next person. You know the type of person you enjoy being around because they are always up to something, or have a funny story to tell, or embrace you for being you? You are that person for someone! So basically, you have an obligation to have fun.
That trip to Kaua'i was full of deep life talks, the kind that can happen anywhere, but seem to happen in particular during travel. Traveling gives you a chance to break away from your normal routine, it inspires fresh starts, motivates, and allows you to become more empathetic of people's situations and feelings. As I've been thinking about where I'd like to see Seek Do Love go, I kept coming back to the power of united women and travel.
I believe every woman should have the opportunity to be inspired and empowered by travel. Let's share our stories together! I want to know where you went, recommendations, how traveling has changed you, interesting cultural facts, what did you eat?!, your travel tips, and more! This world is big, but discussing our personal journey's and growth, makes it a little bit more accessible for the next woman. Keep seeking out and doing what you LOVE. We can't wait to hear about it!
